Interests |
Currently, my research focuses on the role of family variables in the association between parental conflict and children’s development. This interest has led me to consider the family as both a process and contextual variable, helping to explain the effects of parental discord on children’s well-being. I am particularly interested in triangulation as a process variable for children. While triangulation has demonstrated compelling relations with children’s internalizing and externalizing problems, there is still little known about how it works in conjunction with other process variables (e.g., emotions, appraisals). In addition, I am interested in other contextual factors that shape the way children perceive interparental conflict, including family cohesion and emotional climate. I am also interested in understanding how parents influence the cognitive and emotional reactions children have to interparental conflict.
My Master’s work in child development focused on horizontal and vertical relationship qualities in mother- and father-child interactions. A continuing interest is in examining the role of fathers parenting practices on children’s development.
Clinically, I enjoy working with families, couples, and individuals from all walks of life. I find that I enjoy working from a systems perspective when I work with families and couples. In addition, I also enjoy working with individuals during periods of formative developmental growth. |
