Rubén Darío of Nicaragua is one of those rural, less privileged people who benefited from increased educational opportunities during the early 20c, despite the generally racist tenor of the times. A child prodigy and a dark-complexioned mestizo, he achieved worldwide fame for his poetry. Looking forward to next week, check out his view of U.S. imperialism in the poem "To Roosevelt. "
