SA is often a team effort and should be more accurate in better-functioning teams.BackgroundCohesive teams perform better overall, although the relationship appears reciprocal; the relationship to SA has not been considered previously. SE is a collective neurocognitive activity that has been connected to team coordination, communication, and performance in some circumstances.MethodIn this experiment, 71 undergraduates, organized into 16 teams, played two matches of a first-person shooter computer game and completed self-report measures of cohesion and SA. SE was determined through time series analysis of electrodermal responses using the driver-empath framework.ResultsEmpaths and those who came from more synchronized teams reported less cohesion in the team. Granger causality regression showed reciprocal relations among SA, SE, and cohesion that were both positive and negative after controlling for match difficulty.ConclusionThe cohesion-SA relationship is similar to the reciprocal cohesion-performance relationship. SE plays an important and independent role in both the social and cognitive aspects of team behavior. It is possible, furthermore, that individuals who are more attuned to their co-workers reported a more accurate, and less obliging, social situation.ApplicationResults are applicable to situations requiring teamwork in a dynamic environment. }, author = {Stephen J. We examined some types of transients found in time series of events that lend themselves to symbolic dynamics analysis through the method of orbital decomposition, which is based on the principle that chaotic series arise from coupled oscillators. Synthetic data sets were constructed to study the impact of intrusive events, intrusive series, merged functions, non-coupled oscillators, and driving oscillations on the patterns of final statistics obtained from orbital decomposition analysis. Two real-world data sets - a logbook of the ritual behaviors of a patient with obsessive compulsive disorder and a time series of kill dates from an infamous serial murderer - were examined for non-ergodic properties similar to those found in the synthetic data.}, address = {Department of Psychology, Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI 53210-1881, USA. stephen.guastello@marquette.edu}, author = {Guastello, Stephen J and Peressini, Anthony F. and Bond, Robert W Jr}, crdt = {2011/09/22 06:00}, da = {20110921}, date = {2011 Oct}, date-added = {2015-09-18 20:49:50 +0000}, date-modified = {2015-10-18 03:56:35 +0000}, dcom = {20111207}, edat = {2011/09/22 06:00}, issn = {1090-0578 (Print); 1090-0578 (Linking)}, jid = {9704130}, journal = {Nonlinear Dynamics, Psychology and Life Sciences}, jt = {Nonlinear dynamics, psychology, and life sciences}, language = {eng}, mh = {Ceremonial Behavior; Homicide/*psychology/*statistics \& numerical data; Humans; *Life Change Events; Models, Statistical; *Nonlinear Dynamics; Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder/*epidemiology/*psychology}, mhda = {2011/12/13 00:00}, number = {4}, own = {NLM}, pages = {465--476}, pl = {United States}, pmid = {21933515}, pst = {ppublish}, pt = {Journal Article}, sb = {IM}, status = {MEDLINE}, title = {Orbital decomposition for ill-behaved event sequences: transients and superordinate structures.}, volume = {15}, year = {2011}} @incollection{peressiniNumAnaly2010, address = {London}, author = {Peressini, Anthony F.}, booktitle = {Philosophical Perspectives on Mathematical Practice}, date-added = {2015-09-22 13:07:04 +0000}, date-modified = {2015-10-18 04:08:40 +0000}, editor = {Bart Van Kerkhove and Jonas De Vuyst and Jean Paul Van Bendegem}, keywords = {Mathematical practice; mathematics education; proof; mathematical ontology; mathematical epistemology; naturalism; situative learning theory}, pages = {331--349}, publisher = {College Pub.}, title = {Numerical {A}nalysis and {I}ts ({I}nvisible?) {R}ole in {M}athematical {A}pplication}, year = {2010}, bdsk-url-1 = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/1-4020-5034-8_10}} @article{peressini2016-ContBind, author = {Peressini, Anthony F.}, date-added = {2017-02-25 21:31:18 +0000}, date-modified = {2018-08-08 17:31:39 -0500}, doi = {10.1093/bjps/axw030}, journal = {British Journal for the Philosophy of Science}, keywords = {probabilistic causality, probability, causation, imprecise probability, token causality}, number = {3}, pages = {881--909}, title = {Causation, {P}robability, and the {C}ontinuity {B}ind}, url_link = {http://academic.oup.com/bjps/article/doi/10.1093/bjps/axw030/2918938/Causation-Probability-and-the-Continuity-Bind?guestAccessKey=174f670a-fb3e-4cdb-9993-276d3f1ad353}, volume = {69}, year = {2018}, bdsk-url-1 = {https://doi.org/10.1093/bjps/axw030}, bdsk-url-2 = {https://dx.doi.org/10.1093/bjps/axw030}} @article{Peressini2017-Null2CRed, author = {Anthony F.
