PHYSICS 3 GENERAL POLICIES

Lecturer: Fr. Don Matthys, S.J., office WW308, phone 288-1494, fax 288-3989,
email: matthysd@vms.csd.mu.edu

Textbook: Eugene Hecht, Physics : Calculus, Brooks/Cole, 1996.

Attendance: Attendance is required at all lectures and review sections.

Laboratory: Instructions for lab work will be distributed at the first lab meeting. Lab report preparation and evaluation will be discussed at that meeting.

Review: A short multiple-choice quiz will be given during each review session. Homework will be collected and graded. In addition, homework problems will be worked out during the review sessions.

Exams: All exams will be multiple-choice, non-cumulative in content, and equally weighted. There will be three exams:

Grades: Grades will be assigned according to performance on exams, labs, and review work (quizzes and homework), weighted approximately 60%, 20%, and 20%.

Missed Work: Any missed lab or quiz results in a zero for that particular element of work. Occasionally, and for a suitable reason, a missed lab may be made up in a different lab session meeting during the same week. This should be discussed with the lab supervisor. A missing exam will result in an automatic fail for the course, as will three or more absences from lab, or 3 or more missing lab reports.

Help: Fr. Matthys is available during listed office hours or by appointment. Physics tutors are available in student union (room xxx) on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Office Hours: Matthys: M, TH: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., W: 1:00-2:00 p.m., in WW308.
