Research Interests

Past: Phase-sensitive optical amplifiers. Laser transients and coupling. Phase control of pulsed lasers. Noise in laser systems. Interfacing analog sensors to computers. Hybrid stress analysis combining experimental measurements with finite element analysis. Finite element analysis of microcircuit modules. Holographic interferometry and speckle metrology. Characterization of buckling behavior in large structural components.

Present: Digital image processing of optically generated fringe patterns. Experimental stress analysis - developmental and applications oriented research in holographic interferometry, speckle metrology, and high-frequency moire. Holographic/fiber optic systems for deformation and vibration measurement. Panoramic lens systems - A technique for inspecting cavities and bores. Speckle Correlation methods for full field velocity measurement. Fluorescence as monitor of chemical changes. Diffractive or binary optics.
