Religious Studies Postgraduate Essay Prize


Submissions are invited for the Religious Studies Postgraduate Essay Prize, which is sponsored jointly by Cambridge University Press and the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion.


The winning entry will be published in Religious Studies, and the winner will be awarded £300.


The Prize is an international prize, and open to all those who, at time of the deadline, are registered for a postgraduate degree. The topic of the essay should be in the philosophy of religion and must be no longer than 10,000 words in length. The judges reserve the right not to award the Prize if no submission of sufficient merit is received. All entries will be considered for publication in Religious Studies.


Essays should be submitted in hard copy only (not through the journal's electronic submission system), in duplicate, and clearly marked ‘Religious Studies Essay Prize’, with the author's name and contact details in a covering letter but not on the essay. The closing date for entries is 31st December, 2014, and they should be sent to:

The University of Johannesburg is pleased to announce that it intends to appoint a Postdoctoral  Research Fellow in Philosophy. AOS: Post-Kantian European philosophy, German idealism,  phenomenology and/or hermeneutics. AOC: Open. Essential: Completed PhD by start date; capacity  and motivation to publish in peer-reviewed journals. Start date: Negotiable, but early 2015 desirable.  The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the Department's intellectual life,  which may include light teaching and administrative duties, as well as with the activities of the Centre  for Phenomenology in South Africa, currently hosted at the Department. Salary: R220.000 p.a.  (untaxed, plus a travel fund subject to suitable progress with publications). Duration: one year initially  with the possibility of renewal for a second year, depending on publications. ACADEMIC POSITION

 

The Department of Philosophy at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, invites applications for a permanent full-time position. AOS: Ancient or Medieval Philosophy. AOC: Open. Rank: Open. 2/2 teaching load during the first year; 3/2 thereafter. Start-up research fund of $12,500 per year during the first three years. Approximate salary is $40,000. Ph.D. in Philosophy required. Teaching experience in a wide variety of courses strongly preferred. Starting date: July 2015. Responsibilities include introductory and advanced undergraduate philosophy courses, graduate seminars, and courses designed for wider audiences in other disciplines. The language of instruction is Spanish and the candidate will be expected to teach in that language from the beginning. The application must include: a letter of application, a current CV, a writing sample, two letters of recommendation, and two sample syllabi, one for an advanced seminar and one for a philosophy course designed for students in other fields. The Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry 

(AAPP) announces a competition for residents and fellows in 

psychiatry, and graduate students in philosophy, psychology, or 

related fields.


The Karl Jaspers Award is given for the best solely authored, 

unpublished paper related to the subject of philosophy and psychiatry.

Appropriate topics for the essay include, among others, the mind-body 

problem, psychiatric methodology, nosology and diagnostic issues, 

epistemology, biopsychosocial integration, the philosophy of science, 

philosophical aspects of the history of psychiatry, psychodynamic, 

hermeneutic and phenomenological approaches, and psychiatric ethics.


The Jaspers Award is announced at our AAPP Annual Meeting, held

concurrently with the American Psychiatric Association’s Annual 

Meeting. In 2015, the meeting will be on the weekend of May 16-17, 

in Toronto, Canada. The prize carries a cash prize of $350 and 

recognition in AAPP publications.
