The Western "Civ Series"
This course is a program. You will be offered
opportunities called the "Civ Series" to complement and
reinforce your coursework with a variety of voluntary
activities:
- Civ Seminar Series (TAs, departmental Research
Assistants [RAs], and gifted undergraduates will
provide you with more detailed consideration of
particular topics in approximately hour-long seminars in
the AMU or in other campus locations);
- Civ Cinema Series (films hosted by TAs, RAs,
or the Director);
- Civ Museum Series (informal tours of the
permanent exhibit entitled "Temples, Tells, and Tombs"at
the Milwaukee Public Museum located at 800 W. Wells
Street [one block north of the Public Library] on
11 and 18 September (Mondays) from 3:15-4:00 PM [free
admission with proof of residence in Milwaukee County,
e.g., a letter written to you at Marquette]); and
- Civ Art Series (guided tours of the Haggerty
Art Museum [TBA] hosted by the Educational
Curator and tours of the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM)
(ancient to Renaissance/Baroque collections) led by TAs
[nominal donation to MAM]).
The MAM is located at 750 North Lincoln Memorial Drive
(the "War Memorial Building"at the lakefront). Use the
East entrance. The MAM is currently engaged in an
exciting building program. Parking is available on the
north side of the building. There is a parking lot fee if
you choose to drive.
(The Director is also planning on conducting a tour of
the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa,
Wisconsin, in conjunction with the Byzantine Empire
unit.)
