SUGGESTIONS
REGARDING STUDYING
- Find a comfortable place to study (avoid
distractions)
- Organize study time (take short rather than long
breaks)
- Procrastination in a course like this can be dreadful
(discipline yourself)
- Study for exams early (make up your own exams, test
one another, practice writing essays from the study guide
[be clear, comprehensive, and concise])
- Review reading, lecture, and discussion section notes
(have TA or Student Educational Services
[#8-3270] help)
STUDY SUGGESTIONS FOR EXAMS
(ESPECIALLY MIDTERM AND FINAL)
- SPELL CORRECTLY (This indicates to the TA that you
know the material.)
- WRITE IN SENTENCES. USE PROSE. NO OUTLINES AS
ANSWERS.
- ANSWER THE QUESTION DIRECTLY. MAKE SURE YOU
UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN
COMPREHENSION, ASK A PROCTORING TA.
- START STUDYING FOR EXAMS EARLY.
- USE A PEN AND WRITE LEGIBLY.
- WATCH THE TIME.
- SUPPORT YOUR STATEMENTS WITH FACTS IN ORDER TO PROVE
TO THE TA THAT YOU KNOW THE INFORMATION. DO NOT ASSUME
THAT THE TA WILL DEDUCE YOUR ANSWER.
- WRITE AS IF THE PERSON READING YOUR WORK KNOWS LITTLE
ABOUT THE TOPIC. THIS WILL HELP YOU PREPARE AND PRESENT
COMPLETE, COMPREHENSIVE ANSWERS.
PROHIBITIONS:
- NO NOTES IN THE EXAM ROOM.
- NO HEADPHONES
- NO PENCILS (BRING TWO PENS WITH YOU TO EXAMS)
