STUDY SUGGESTIONS FOR EXAMS (ESPECIALLY MIDTERM AND FINAL)

  1. SPELL CORRECTLY (This indicates to the TA that you know the material.)

  2. WRITE IN SENTENCES. USE PROSE. NO OUTLINES AS ANSWERS.

  3. ANSWER THE QUESTION DIRECTLY. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN COMPREHENSION, ASK A PROCTORING TA.

  4. START STUDYING FOR EXAMS EARLY.

  5. USE A PEN AND WRITE LEGIBLY.

  6. WATCH THE TIME.

  7. SUPPORT YOUR STATEMENTS WITH FACTS IN ORDER TO PROVE TO THE TA THAT YOU KNOW THE INFORMATION. DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE TA WILL DEDUCE YOUR ANSWER.

  8. WRITE AS IF THE PERSON READING YOUR WORK KNOWS LITTLE ABOUT THE TOPIC. THIS WILL HELP YOU PREPARE AND PRESENT COMPLETE, COMPREHENSIVE ANSWERS.

  3. NO PENCILS (BRING TWO PENS WITH YOU TO EXAMS)

You should feel free to call upon your TAs or Director/Lecturer whenever you feel the need for further guidance or explanation. Their office hours and e-mail addresses will be announced. Dr. Naylor's office hours will be announced. He holds his office hours in Coughlin Hall 309 (M 2:30-4 PM) and the "Brew Bayou" (W 10:15-11:45 AM). His phone number is 8-3561 and he has voice mail. In addition, you may contact him through e-mail (Phillip.Naylor@Marquette.edu). The Western Civilization Program also has its own page under Department of History. You will find all of the instructional staff intensely interested in assisting you successfully achieve the objectives of this course. Nevertheless, you must take the initiative for your success, in large measure, will be determined by the effort which you choose to make.
