Phys 4, Section 2                                            Spring 2002

Office hours: MW 10:00 – 11:30 am, MW 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Th 10:00 - 11:00 am.

Text: Young and Freedman, University Physics with Modern Physics, 10th ed.

Attendance: Attendance is required at all lectures and reviews: MWThF 9:00 am in WW141.

Laboratory: Procedures for performing the lab and submitting reports will be discussed by your lab assistant. A syllabus of the experiments will be found at the lab website (start at http://bb.mu.edu). All questions pertaining to lab work should be directed to your lab assistant or to the lab director, Ms. Melissa Vigil (WW347, phone 288-3651).

Homework: Problem sets will be collected in the week following assignment during the Thursday review session. They will be graded and then returned at the next review session. The grader for the course is Ms Smitha Kotha; you can contact her via e-mail (gsmitha@hotmail.com) to make an appointment if you wish to talk to her about the homework.

Review Sessions: New homework will be collected and old (graded) homework returned. Then all the homework problems will be worked out on the board and the principles of solving problems will be discussed. Also a brief quiz on the reading material and the lectures for that week will be given at the end of the period.

Missed work: Missed labs, homework, or quizzes will be assigned a zero grade. No make-ups or late submissions are allowed without serious reason and special arrangement.

Exams: There will be three equally weighted non-cumulative exams:
                    Exam 1: Friday Feb 15, during class period.
                    Exam 2: Friday Apr 5, during class period.
                    Exam 3: Tuesday, May 7, 8:00 am - 10:00 am.

Grades: Grades will be assigned according to performance on exams, labs, quizzes, and homework, weighted approximately 60%, 20%, 10%, and 10%, respectively.

Help: Fr. Matthys is available during the office hours listed above or by appointment. In addition, Mr. Dale Human (WW385, phone 288-6014, dale.human@marquette.edu) will be available in the tutoring room (WW392) during the following afternoon hours:
        M 3:00-6:00, Tu 3:00-6:30, W 5:30-7:00, Th 3:30-5:30. 

Finally, the Office of Student Educational Services offers free tutoring in AMU 317 to Phys 4 students who sign up for it. See the OSES website at http://www.marquette.edu/oses/.
