About the IIS

This event is made possible thanks to the support of the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, the DeWulf-Mansion Centre of the Institute of Philosophy at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City, and the Department of Philosophy at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Call For Panels



We invite proposals for 7 panels by AAIWG members in accordance with the following guidelines: Each 120 min. panel consists of 3 speakers and 1 commentator. The presentations must be 20 mins long and the commentary must be 15 mins long to leave sufficient time for discussion. Panel proposals are to be submitted and organized by a spokesperson of the panel.


Complete panel proposals include:

  1. (1)One panel abstract of max. 200 words describing the overall coherence and theme of the panel

  2. (2)Three paper abstracts of max. 150 words each describing the content of each paper

  3. (3)Names and affiliations of all speakers

(4) For all graduate students: CV, dissertation abstract, and letter of supervisor.

Suggestions concerning accommodation will be made available to speakers upon request after the program announcement.


In accord with usual AAIWG events, presenters and commentators should plan on covering their own costs for travel, housing, and some meals. Additional information on luncheons and a conference dinner for program participants is forthcoming.

To complete this submission, we will need a completed title for 3) and abstracts of ca. 150 words from Taylor, Twetten & Janos as well as an abstract of 200 words for the entire session. The presenters must provide their full papers at least one month in advance to each other and DeHann. The presenters will have no more than 20 min. to present a précis of their full papers at the conference. DeHaan will have 15-20 min. to comment. The remaining time will be open for discussion with the audience.


Submissions for panels should follow this pattern but with all titles and abstracts fully provided by the submission deadline of 15 December 2019.
